Welcome to Velocity

October 2008

CIMA is committed to supporting you through the current economic downturn.

The financial depth and commercial breadth of our qualification means that you will be well equipped to take on the challenges that face you. We will be there to support you as you adapt to changing circumstances.

For a wide range of resources aimed at helping you help you steer your company and your career through this challenging environment, please read 'Managing in a downturn' in our features section.

Your November exams

You will also be focusing on the approaching exams, and this issue of Velocity has been designed to help you as much as possible.

We carried out research with prize-winning students recently about what gives them their edge in exams.

The simple but overwhelming answer was 'practice'. Hopefully by now you've had a chance to use some of the regular model exam answers published in Velocity which are designed to help you do just that.

We will, of course, continue to run these model answers ' see the one on P7 in this issue. But, if you need more, CIMA has posted free model answers to previous exam questions on our website.

To find out more see the article 'Top exam tips; Q&As free to download'. Also in this packed October edition, we ask students about their worst experiences when starting a job - and their advice about how to find a better one!

Plus we find out about how learning styles can help you study; and how working in a shared service centre has proved very rewarding for one accountant in Manchester in the United Kingdom.
