24 teams took part in the CIMA Management Accounting Business Challenge recently.
Four made their way into the finals which were held at the UEM Academy, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, on 23 August.
The competition was based on the May 2008 CIMA final exam paper which is a case study on the Solberri group of resort hotels in Europe. The teams taking part in the competition prepared a report that analysed and evaluated the issues facing Solberri.
They also made recommendations to ensure Solberri's continued profitability despite keen competition in the hotel industry.
The four teams presented their recommendations to a panel of judges and answered challenging questions.
Pitching their skills against one another, the Innovators team from Monash University walked away with the top prize. Rozina Ali from the team, said: 'Teamwork played a key role. We were able to present all our ideas within the allocated time, which put us ahead straightaway. It was a fabulous competition and I hope there will be many more like it.'
A member of the Innovators team, Ms Puteri Zara Sophiya, was also judged Best Presenter.
