FAQs

I have been asked to provide accountancy services for free – do I need to register as a Member in Practice?

Answer

This generally refers to work for charities or clubs therefore it is not necessary for you to register as a Member in Practice (Council Regulation 7.1.3). If you are providing reporting services for charities, i.e. audit, you should also consult with the relevant Standards of Reporting Practice.

Please visit the Regulators page which contains links to Charity Commission websites for further guidance.

Please note that even if working in an honorary capacity, you may still be legally liable for work incorrectly done and should ensure you are competent to do the work undertaken. Note that charitable companies are subject to a lower audit threshold than other companies, detailed on the Members and audit page.
